Members of the Sandbach Allotment Society staged an open day at their site at Yeowood Farm this month.

The group held the weekend event in Ettiley Heath to give growers a chance to show off their thriving plots.

They displayed a variety of different produce from flowers to the more traditional fruit and vegetables, which this year has provided a surplus of goods and were on sale to the public at the event.

While the open day was free to enter, society members raised cash for St Luke’s Hospice by selling drinks, cakes and their home-grown produce to visitors, and gathered more donations through collection boxes.

An essential part of the plot is the much talked about ‘piggery’, which is used to house equipment as well as having facilities to make a drink and for social meetings when it starts to rain – fortunately it was not needed for the open day event.
