Fodens 10-piece group in Sandbach

Ten top musicians from Fodens Band will be performing at the Sandbach Concert Series on Wednesday November 26.

This is not the first time the 10-piece has been at the Concert Series as they first performed in November 2011 in the second season of the series.

And through their connection with Andy Scott, Foden’s Band composer in residence, many of the players have featured in past concerts.

Sandbach Concert Series will present Chester-born pianist Sally Wigan on Wednesday October 29.

Sally has performed across the UK, Switzerland and Hungary in such prestigious venues as Wigmore Hall, Symphony Hall, and the Franz Liszt Concert Hall in Budapest.

She has been selected as a Park Lane Group (PLG) Young Artist for the past three consecutive years and her appearance at the Purcell Room for the PLG’s 2013 series won her critical acclaim.

Sandbach band’s charity showcase

Sandbach musicians performed at a charity musical showcase last month, helping to raise more than £700 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The event at Middlewich Civic Hall was a huge success despite the leader and conductor of the choir Julie Barker being taken ill just before.

At the eleventh hour Steve Best stepped in to conduct the Middlewich High School Community Choir, with a quick rehearsal an hour before the concert was due to start. 

Live music at the Tavern

RIFF-flying, harmonica-wailing R ‘n’ B band Route 66 play at the Market Tavern in Sandbach on Saturday October 11.

The band have been on the road now for 25 years and in that time they have played around a thousand gigs from big festivals to the smallest pubs.

People may remember the band from performances at The Wheatsheaf in Stoke or The Limelight in Crewe.

Conkers on the Cobbles

There will be free activities for youngsters on the Cobbles in Sandbach on Saturday October 11, including a conker competition and arts and crafts.

Sandbach Messy Church will be hosting the crafts sessions, with children able to take part in scratch art to make their own bookmarks.

The free art activities are available from 9.30am until 1pm, while from 11am to 12noon children and adults can take part in the conker contest.

Folk duo in Sandbach

Football, folk-rock and the 1950s are just three subjects to inspire folk duo Ken Nicol and Ashley Hutchings.

Both former members of Steeleye Span, as well as many other bands and projects, they will be performing at Sandbach Town Hall on Thursday October 9 with a show packed with original music written over the past four decades.

Preston-based guitarist and singer Ken and Chesterfield-based Ashley first united in the Albion Band in the 1990s and since then have come together on various projects including acclaimed album Copper, Russet And Gold.
