Vulnerable Sandbach pensioner targeted by callous thieves

Police are appealing for information after callous thieves targeted a vulnerable pensioner in Sandbach.

Sometime between 5pm and 5.20pm on Tuesday February 20 the victim, an elderly woman in her 90’s, was visited at her Congleton Road home by a man claiming to be a workman.

The man told the victim that he needed to go inside the property to check the taps in the kitchen.

While inside the kitchen a second unknown person then entered the address and stole a quantity of cash and valuable items.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged 35 – 40 years old, approximately 5’8” tall and of slim build.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a baseball cap and a high visibility vest.

Detective Constable Richard Garrett said: “To stoop so low as to target a vulnerable pensioner in her own home is as despicable offence and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible.

“Enquiries in relation to the incident are currently ongoing and I urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact the team here at Crewe on 101.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to remain vigilant of anyone who comes to your door offering to carry out work, and I urge people to report any suspicious activity to us immediately on 101.”
