Young musicians on tune in Sandbach

Sandbach has hosted its Young Musician of the Year competition to unearth the town’s brightest talents.

The event, run by the Sandbach Concert Series, was organised at the Town Hall as a part of the Sandbach Transport Festival.

Saxophonist Ben Jackson (above) won first place in the senior section, earning a £100 bursary from Crewe Male Voice Choir, presented by the choir’s Stephen Davies. 

Evie Palethorpe (cello), Tillie Palethorpe (flute), Jim Baldwin (piano), Emily Leavy (clarinet) and Matthew Franklin (clarinet) all went home with prizes in the junior section.

Emily Leavy (clarinet) impressed judges to earn a special prize donated by conductor Bramwell Tovey and a £25 bursary sponsored by Nigel Birch.

Nadia James (cornet) came second in the senior section with a trophy and a £50 bursary from Sandbach Music.
